| Income Tax Disclosure [Abstract] | |
| Income Taxes | Income Taxes The income tax provision for the three months ended March 31, 2015 and 2014 is calculated by estimating Starz’s annual effective tax rate and then applying the effective tax rate to income before income taxes for the period, plus or minus the tax effects of items that relate discretely to the period, if any. Our effective tax rate was 33% and 35% for the three months ended March 31, 2015 and 2014, respectively. For the three months ended March 31, 2015 and 2014, income tax expense differs from the amounts computed by applying the U.S. federal income tax rate of 35% primarily due to Internal Revenue Code Section 199, which allows U.S. taxpayers a deduction for qualified domestic production activities. In addition, our effective tax rate is impacted by state and local taxes for both the three months ended March 31, 2015 and 2014. |
