| Recent Accounting Pronouncements | Recent Accounting Pronouncements a) Recent accounting standards implemented In July 2013, the FASB issued authoritative guidance containing changes to the presentation of an unrecognized tax benefit when a loss or credit carryforward exists. The new standard requires the netting of unrecognized tax benefits against a deferred tax asset for a loss or other carryforward that would apply in the settlement of the uncertain tax positions. The Company adopted this standard on January 1, 2014; however, the implementation of the standard did not have a significant impact on its financial results or in the presentation and disclosure of its financial statements. No other new accounting standards have been adopted during the three and nine months ended September 30, 2014. b) Recent accounting standards issued On May 28, 2014, the FASB issued Accounting Standard Update ("ASU") No. 2014-09, Revenue from Contracts with Customers, which requires an entity to recognize the amount of revenue to which it expects to be entitled for the transfer of promised goods or services to customers. The ASU will replace most existing revenue recognition guidance in U.S. GAAP when it becomes effective. The new standard is effective for the Company on January 1, 2017. Early application is not permitted. The standard permits the use of either the retrospective or cumulative effect transition method. The Company is evaluating the effect that ASU 2014-09 will have on its consolidated financial statements and related disclosures. The Company has not yet selected a transition method nor has it determined the effect of the standard on its ongoing financial reporting. No other new standards have been issued during the three and nine months ended September 30, 2014 that the Company assessed to have a significant impact on its financial results or in the presentation and disclosure of its financial statements. |
