| Description of Business | Description of Business BJ’s Wholesale Club Holdings, Inc. and its wholly owned subsidiaries is a leading warehouse club operator in the eastern United States. As of May 2, 2020, the Company operated 218 warehouse clubs and 145 gas stations in 17 states. The Company follows, and reports based on the National Retail Federation’s fiscal calendar. The thirteen week periods ended May 2, 2020 and May 4, 2019 are referred to as the "first quarter of fiscal year 2020" and the "first quarter of fiscal year 2019," respectively. The coronavirus disease 2019 (“COVID-19”) pandemic has severely impacted the economies of the U.S. and other countries around the world. In the preparation of these financial statements and related disclosures we have assessed the impact that COVID-19 has had on our estimates, assumptions and accounting policies and made additional disclosures, as necessary.
